Top Coat Applicator Kit
Video Description (Click Here)
The Mushroom Microfiber method for a natural stone finishThis is the applicator kit used to apply Tough Top Coat. Instead of pulling the top coat with a squeegee, you wrap the microfiber over the soft applicator pad, wipe the top coat on, and tap it out. The tapping (stippling) hides squeegee lines, roller marks, and sanding imperfections, so nothing on your countertop looks man-made.
What's Included
- Soft applicator pad
- Low-absorption microfiber cloth
Why You'll Love It
- No lines or lap marks: stippling leaves a tight, uniform pattern that looks like natural stone.
- Forgiving: it leaves more top coat on the surface, which hides sanding marks.
- Less wasted top coat: the microfiber is made so it doesn't soak up a lot of product.
- Soft backing: the pad gives you a cushioned tap with no hard impressions.
- Easy the first time: less stressful than a squeegee, and it works in place on installed countertops.
How to Use It
- Center the applicator pad on the microfiber with the rougher, heavier-textured side facing out. Pull the cloth tight over the pad and secure it on the back so there are no wrinkles.
- Remove any loose lint from the face of the cloth.
- Saturate the whole face with Tough Top Coat, including the perimeter, so there are no dry spots.
- Work in about a 2 ft x 4 ft section at a time. Wipe the top coat on, then tap lightly until the finish looks uniform.
- Stipple back into your wet edge as you move to the next section.
- The next day, sand from 500 to 4,000 grit, then compound and polish.
Good to Know
- The microfiber is one-time use. Use a fresh cloth for each coat.
- Don't work too large an area at once. Tough Top Coat dries fast on the surface.
- Tough Top Coat is sold separately.

(One change we've from this video is we sand to 4,000 before we topcoat and then sand the topcoat to 4,000 to get that amazing glossy look without needing a second coat.)
